Womens workwear cut for a female fit

Womens workwear is finally worth buying: trousers with a shaped waist and shorter rise, safety boots built on a female last with a narrower heel, polos with a shaped body, and hi-vis that does not hang like a tent. We stock the ranges that do this properly from Portwest, DeWalt, Uneek and Groundwork rather than relabelled small mens sizes.

Start with womens work trousers, womens safety boots, womens safety trainers and womens coveralls. Where a product is unisex, the size chart on the page shows how it fits.

What to look for

Trousers. A womens cut has a higher back rise, a shaped waist and a shorter leg; regular leg is usually 30-31 inches rather than 32. Stretch fabrics help with fit across sizes.

Footwear. Womens safety boots and trainers use a narrower last and start at UK 3. A unisex boot in a small size is wider and often heavier; it will still be certified, it just will not fit as well.

Tops. Womens polos and t-shirts are shaped at the waist with a shorter sleeve and a slightly lower neckline. Hi-vis vests are mostly unisex, but womens hi-vis jackets exist and fit far better.

Frequently asked questions

Is womens workwear just smaller mens sizes?
Not here. The ranges we stock as womens are cut on a female block (shaped waist, higher rise, narrower heel for footwear). Unisex items are labelled as such with a size chart.
What size womens work trousers should I buy?
Order your usual UK dress size or your waist measurement in inches; each product page has the brand's chart. If the trousers are stretch, order your normal size; if not, and you are between sizes, go up.
